Laughter is the “jest medicine”. Groan if you must, but readers who chuckled gave their health a boost. Belly laughs cause the body to release endorphins, which act like opiates by inducing emotional calm and enhancing an overall sense of well-being. Make time to have coffee with a funny, silly friend, or find a room in your day for play, whether it’s sports or board games. Laughter is a pure pleasure and something that brings happiness to ourselves and also people around you.

“I love people who make me laugh. I honestly think it’s the thing I like most, to laugh. It cures a multitude of ills. It’s probably the most important thing in a person.”
Audrey Hepburn

“Laughter is more than just a pleasurable activity…When people laugh together, they tend to talk and touch more and to make eye contact more frequently.”
Gretchen Rubin, The Happiness Project: Or Why I Spent a Year Trying to Sing in the Morning, Clean My Closets, Fight Right, Read Aristotle, and Generally Have More Fun

Jokes  can be a fun way to start each day or week with your class. You can also designate a day as a ‘joke day’. Each joke day you can use one of these student-friendly jokes and also open the class to see what jokes they might have.
