“There is a power under your control that is greater than poverty, greater than the lack of education, greater than all your fears and superstitions combined. It is the power to take possession of your own mind and direct it to whatever ends you may desire.” — Andrew Carnegie
Have you ever caught yourself thinking negatively?
You may be on your way to an important appointment and running late, stuck in traffic.
There was an accident a few kilometres away that will take an hour to clear, so you’re forced to stay in your seat and overthink all the worst outcomes this delay will cost you.
A failed job interview.
An unsuccessful client meeting.
Time is running out! What are you going to do?
You can’t change the situation around you…but you can choose how to respond.
By choosing how to respond, you’ll calm down and start being aware of the negative emotions and thinking patterns your mind creates to fool you with the illusion of hopelessness, which is a dangerous way of thinking.
If done constantly, this could lead to stress, anxiety, and depression, even chronic illnesses if left unmanaged.
Choosing how to respond changes your perception in everyday life, transforming your external environment with the internal influence of your mind.
Do this, and a simple road problem will no longer faze you— you’ll practically be untouchable, untouchable *in Meghan Trainor’s tune* LOL.
I know it’s easier said than done. I still struggle with negative thoughts sometimes. You can’t master this skill overnight.
That’s what this blog is for, to help your mind not be your worst enemy but your best ally, so it won’t break you but make you. If you’re up to the task, let’s dive right in!
Life’s obstacles are divinely put in our lives for a reason. Did your perspective shift as a result of a challenging situation? What did you learn from that experience that has stayed with you?
These are what we discussed in this episode of Energetic Radio:
⭐ “…a lot of really invaluable lessons that I learned about not comparing, about staying present, not allowing my mind to drift to the past (before the brain injury)…about a life I used to have or think about the future because it was so unknown and I was so forced into the present…and it’s like, once I realised this, it opened up everything and changed…it just changed my inner world. It changed everything.” — Danielle Matthews
⭐ The solution to the obstacle you face is within itself. The only way to get to the other side and figure it out is to embrace and go through it, realising that this is here for you to learn.
⭐ You are not your thoughts. And that is the crux of everything. Your thoughts, emotions, reactions, and responses are not you. There is an aspect of you before the thought occurs and leads.

Let’s admit it. We’re not always in the right headspace to be a family member or a friend’s emotional support. There’s strength in rejecting fake toughness for being true to yourself. How do you prioritise your well-being while still being there for those around you?
This week’s talk on The Overly Excited Podcast covered these:
🚀 “I was told to be kind, be appreciative, be grateful, but have fun.” — Jack Watts
🚀 Helping others starts with caring for yourself to be in a good place mentally and physically.
🚀 Coping with life’s uncertainties sometimes requires detaching from situations and finding the best escape for you.
Did you know that there’s an optimal way to breathe? Yes, it’s called ‘belly breathing’! To do it, you contract your diaphragm downwards your belly as you inhale. This expands the chest cavity, allowing the lungs to take in oxygen with 100% efficiency.
Your body, especially your brain, requires a good amount of oxygen to function at its best. Practise the right way of breathing and reap its benefits from a clearer mind, better sleep, and healthy digestion to detoxifying your body and lowering blood pressure. Make it fun by challenging a loved one to practice with you!

You can’t escape. Life stressors will never miss ruining your day.
Whether your kids are throwing tantrums in the grocery store, you’re having a bad day at the office, or your rent is due next week, and your budget won’t make it.
There’s no escaping stress but go through it.
Conquer your rising anger fast before it explodes and affects the people around you.
You don’t have to go anywhere to do this simple calming technique, I will tell you.
Moreover, this technique works so well that Buddhists practise it to gain control of their minds.
Mindful breathing allows you to get the same benefits of meditation minus the sticky mat, yoga space, and essential oils.
All you need to do is pause, face your anger and frustrations, gather them in your chest, and all at once, let go of them with a deep, releasing exhale. Continue doing it. This time, shift your full awareness to your breath as you go.
You have just maximised the effect of this technique because you’ve learned the proper way to breathe earlier. 😉
So, with practice, mindful breathing will be as easy as pie without overthinking it. You can pause and do it in any scenario.
As Eckhart Tolle has said,
“Boredom, anger, sadness, or fear are not ‘yours’, not personal. They are conditions of the human mind. They come and go. Nothing that comes and goes is you”.
Refocus and continue your life with this breathing technique HERE.
School of Psychology and Public Health
I’m delighted to share with you that for the past six months, I’ve been collaborating with Mandy Ruddock and Todd Gibson from the School of Psychology and Public Health, La Trobe University; for the one thing, I’ve been missing from the play-based FunShops I have been running around the globe…
Data examining the effectiveness of play on well-being in adults.
This changed with the Teacher and Parent Community-Based FunShop at Belle Vue PS in Melbourne.
The insightful data on how important play is for adults’ mental and physical well-being will be released soon.
I can’t wait to show you why this collaborative FunShop between teachers and parents is the way of the future and is the ultimate bonding and connecting experience!
However, if that isn’t your school, sporting club, non-profit organisation or corporate entity’s thing, you’re still welcome to book The Active FunShop.
The FunShop can be tailor-made based on how you want to team-build your staff or sporting group to smash your goals. You can email us at firstname.lastname@example.org for more details!
Westbourne Grammar School
Last week, I had the honour of kicking off term three with a room full of 260 Super Star Educators at Westbourne Grammar.
It’s all thanks to your support!
This wasn’t just another session— we broke the mould, focused on the essential elements of people and connection, and designed something extraordinary.
We combined the essence of the “You must be well to lead well” keynote with the laughter and creativity of the adult play FunShop, powering through an epic hybrid two-hour journey.
The sheer joy and positive buzz were so palpable it was hard not to catch it!
As I was stepping out, hearing over ten passionate educators say it was the “Most engaging and enjoyable PD they’ve done in years”, with a few even calling it “The best”…PRICELESS!
I am humbled and grateful to have made a memorable impact with you, who supports fun and play in the schooling community, so I’d like to share this moment with you as well.
Send us an email at email@example.com, so your team can also experience the electrifying energy in a FunShop!
A massive shoutout to Adrian, Teagan, and the entire Westbourne team for having me. Here’s to a phenomenal term three, charged with enthusiasm, connection, and well-being!
Onwards and upwards, Westbourne!
